Chana Auto Co. Ltd, or simply called ChangAn, is one of the most renowned carmakers in China. Its headquarters is located in Chongqing.
Chana has a long history. It was founded in Shanghai in 1862 by Hongzhang Li, a famous character in the Westernization Movement of the Qing dynasty. It was called Shanghai Foreign Gun Bureau at that time and soon developed to be the first industrial group in modern China.

Plant construction commenced on March 18, 1997 in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China. The first car was produced on December 18, 1999. This represents a milestone in Chinese manufacturing history because it was the first car produced by a totally Chinese owned and managed company.
